HELTER SKELTER

Helter Skelter

Helter Skelter is an amazing movie. I’d assume anyone reading this would know this film chronicles the life and times of one Charles Manson. This is the 2004 telling of the tale in a made for television two part feature. Helter Skelter starts out a few years after Manson’s release from prison highlighting his involvement in the music scene hanging out with the beach boys and trying to make it as a musician. More importantly his hippy commune formed out of the lost souls he managed to manipulate through drugs and his self created messiah complex.

This is a long film and some might consider it hard going. It is necessary to illustrate the control that Manson had over his followers. The film itself is absolutely chilling in execution. The detail in this only serves to highlight the malevolence of Charles Manson. I honestly don’t think anyone could watch this movie without that creepy feeling welling up in your guts knowing all to well this stuff actually happened.

The Sharon Tate murder is highlighted here as well. As are inner goings on within the Manson family compound. The level of thought that would have to go into the formation of a cult such as this is astounding. It is all represented here in excrutiating detail. I don’t profess to know that much about the Manson murders but this seems like as in depth as a movie could really get. Showing in detail the workings of the Family and the psyche’s of all involved in family, including Manson himself.

THE VERDICT

Overall I was enthralled by Helter Skelter. I can’t recommend it enough. It is well produced shot brilliantly and the dialogue is incredible. Do yourself a favour and make sure you watch this one if you can find it 🙂 .
