OK Its Halloween, so time to watch another installment of one of horror’s most revered franchises, Halloween Resurrection. 24 years after the original movie was released
THE PLOT
For some reason Mike Myers is back again from the dead. No real reason this time. But does there need to be? Really if you stuck around this long you’ve bought into the franchise and emotionally invested in Mike Myers so does it need to make sense? In my mind, not really. I gave it some thought, but really just happy to have the old fella back doing what he does best.
Unaware that Myers is back a group of young adults compete on a reality show where they go back to the house that Michael Myers grew up. I guess this is the modern twist on the franchise to sperate this one from the past installments. It’s actually not a bad premise.
Myers starts up early in the hospital where Laurie Stoud is now a resident and of course the body count starts to rise from the outset. As one could imagine it’s not long before he returns to his own house, and yes you guessed it, the mayhem starts again. Can the young TV stars get out alive? Can Laurie Stop her brothers next murderous rampage? Well you’ll have to watch the movie to find out!
THE VERDICT
From the outset I’m going to say the movie itself is nothing special. But as I said before you’ve either stuck around this long for the ride or you haven’t. When I say nothing special, its actually pretty cool, It’s the Michael Myers fix we’re all hanging out for. The movie has a much more modern feel than the ones before it, and it is well produced and easy to watch. If you’re up for a simple slasher flick where you can just kick back and enjoy the ride this is the one.
Halloween Resurrection is not a favourate with critics or horror fans either. Again it’s not that its that bad but it doesn’t have the same feel as the original few films. There is some quite reasonable star power in this one too with of course Jamie Lee Curtis returning to reprise her original role as Laurie Strode, and supported by Tyra Banks, Busta Rhymes and Bianca Kajlic (who went on to Rules of Engagement sitcom). The punters agreed it was a little average as well with probably the lowest gross of all the movies at only 35 million or so at the box office.
