I’d taken a bit of a break from watching horror movies (I guess similar to how weed smokers might take a tolerance break) but it was great to get back into it finally with The Furies. And what a way to get back into it! The furies is a gritty and ultra violent movie that doesn’t pull any punches. A word of warning for anyone new to the genre this is not for the faint hearted and is one of the more extreme horror films out there.
The film is actually produced by a company hailing from my hometown here in Australia and I’m pretty sure much of was filmed in the bushland near here. The heartwarming feelings of seeing my hometown in a horror movie are shortly lived as main woman Kayla and her friend are kidnapped and unwillingly placed into a horrific game of cat and mouse where the kidnapped girls are killed by a bunch of masked hunters. The film has similar vibes to something like the “the Game” or “The Running Man” but obviously set out in the Australian Bushland. The plot of this is hard to give away much further than this for fear of ruining the movie for you but rest assured there is a pretty plot and its more than enough to keep the viewer engrossed through out the duration of this film.
The real stand out of this film is the violence and horror. This is top notch horror and high level violence the likes of which is really only matched by movies like “Terrifier”. There’s no known actors in this one but acting is more than good enough for the film this is. The kills are inventive, most of which in 30 plus years of watching horror movies I haven’t seen before. No mean feat there! The costumes of the hunters were great too, infact I’d go as far as to say genuinely disturbing. The Furies really leaves you with an unsettled feeling both during and after the movie. I really hope the director of this film gets his dues from this as it’s a great effort, no doubt produced on an indy budget.

The only thing I can say, if you have the stomach for this, this is a very worthy film!
