Well, since its Friday the 13th… It’s time to continue with a long standing ritual of watching a Jason Movie. This time we’re up to FRIDAY THE 13th JASON GOES TO HELL which is the last of the series I have to watch. This one from 1993 is the ninth instalment in the long running franchise.
THE PLOT
As with any series that goes on past the fourth instalment, you have to suspend disbelief a little to accept that main character Jason is not truely dead. The film opens up with an FBI sting where Jason Voorhees is lured in to attack a hot young FBI agent and chases her through the forest and gets ambushed by a bunch of agents who basically blow him sky high. He has to be dead now right?
The remains of Mr Voorhees are taken to the coroners office where he is examined by the coroner. As his body parts are laid out for examination the coroner notices the heart of Jason is still beating and falls victim to its spell. The coroner then consumes the heart and absorbs the evil Jason and starts a killing spree of his own, slaughtering everyone at the coroners office and heading out to once again start the killing through the coroners body. From there the evil that is Jason spreads like a contagion, resulting in a very worthy killing spree.
THE VERDICT
The film didn’t get the best reviews in the press, nor did it perform that well at the box office. It was the second worst performing film of the series box office wise with Jason Takes Manhattan being the worst performer. I however, think this is quite a cool movie. It is well shot and has a decent budget. Once you can get past the disbelief of Jason now becoming a supernatural being this is very enjoyable. The usual cliche’s of a Friday the 13th film are here and ever present. Great kills and some hot chicks. Only thing is you don’t get to see a lot of “Jason” in his usual form, as with this script that’s not going to happen. But thats cool, the movie is entertaining and a great watch.
