Now it’s time for a little family fun with this spooky classic, The Addams Family. I loved the TV show as a kid and even went back and bought the box set as an adult. It fills my heart with joy to see my young son develop a love for these movies too.
The movie opens up at the Addams family residence, I guess more as a scene setting exercise. The producers have cast this film perfectly with Angelica Huston as Morticia, Raul Julia as Gomez Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester and a very young Christina Ricci as Wednesday. The one liners are classic from the outset. Amongst the crazyness of the Addams family existence Gomez is pining for the loss of his brother Fester. Fester has been missing for 25 years. A crooked accountant visits the family and suggests a tax rort in order to rip the family off. Gomez suggests they call it the Fester Adams retirement fund in honour of their lost family memeber. This of course gives them an idea and the accounts friend who has a son she found / adopted 25 years ago decides to cast her son Gordon as the missing Fester Addams and rip off the family fortune.
This movie is funny as hell, Its deliciously morbid and filled with black humour. Though all this, Gordon infiltrates the Addams family as Fester and gains their trust before he steals their property out from under them. Can the Addams family regain control of their family home and fortune? Well, there’s only way for you guys to find out!
As said before the movie is perfect for what it is, I’ve watched it a few times recently with my son who’s taken a real shine to it. It stands up well to repeated viewing as well. You know how kids are!
