Monster Man was a film I was not holding out a lot of hope for. But it was a quiet Sunday and I didn’t feel like watching something I had to think too hard about so this looked like a decent option.
The film has a similar feel to both Duel and The Hitcher where the plot revolves around two friends going on a road trip. Well, to be more exact it’s one guy, Adam, travelling across the American Desert to see his child hood friend get married but finds his obnoxious old friend Harley (with whom he’s fallen out with) has stowed away in the backseat and now the pair are stuck together. They eventually stop for a bite to eat and start mocking the locals who are watching a monster truck event on tele. Of course they end up getting stalked by a guy driving a monster truck who attempts to run them off the road. The pair find themselves stranded and after walking around find an abandoned camper trailer to siphon fuel from (little do they know the trailer was the scene of a gruesome killing) and get back to the next truck stop to refuel. The monster truck driver is on a similar route and the pair have another near escape from him.
The pair end up teaming up with a beautiful hitcher named Sarah and continue making their way across the country. The sexual tension mounts between Adam and Sarah and the pair eventually hook up. Harley continues to make an ass of himself at another truck stop as the trio continue their trip across the country. Things continue to go from bad to worse as it becomes apparent the monster truck driver is a rather prolific killer. Can the trio escape and make it across the country? I guess you’ll just have to watch the film to find out for yourself!
Overall Monster Man was a decent watch there’s some funny and cringey moments where you have to laugh. There’s some very decent levels of gore, some truly weird moments and one hell of a plot twist to keep you guessing! Over-all I was pleasantly surprised with how good this was.
