PREDATOR

Well, after a breif but refreshing break from watching horror movies I’m back! And thought what better way to ease my way into this than an Arnie flick, Predator. I make no secret of the fact I love Arnie and this film I feel falls into the kind of territory where the level of gore contained within qualifies it for inclusion on this site, even though it is not strictly a horror movie.

This is not what I’d call an intellectual experience but it is a whole lot of fun! It’s basically a beef fest with Carl Weathers (Apollo Creed in the Rocky Series), Jake the Snake (Wrester and one time mayor of California) and of course Arnold Schwarzenegger one of the biggest ticket movie stars of the 80’s in this sci-fi tough guy fest.

Basically the plot revolves around a team of tough guy mercenaries who’ve been called in for a special mission in the jungles of South America. I’m not too sure what the reason they really went in there was, if it was to bust up a military base or if someone had been killing American troops but they go in and wipe out a South American military base it true tough guy fashion. The mission turns out to be a false flag so to speak and Dutch (the character played by Arnie) realises the American troops have been killed by something else.

The gang take a female hostage, and proceed to either investigate or secure the area depending on how you look at it and they true killer starts to make himself known with some sensational killings. It’s not long before our hero’s realise they’re being hunted by an intergalactic predator that is hunting them for sport. The lads have to pool everything they have in order to fight this alien or even survive it. What ensues is a milestone of action cinema history with some of the best one liners and kill scenes ever to be jammed into one film.

Anyway If for whatever reason you haven’t seen this film, its a must see. So much politically incorrect machismo in one film plus some of the greatest Sci-Fi and horror effects you’ll see come of out the 1980’s (and for a fair while afterwards) but more importantly one of the most enjoyable and satisfying action films you’ll ever see!
