This one was an interesting little movie. It centres in on an alien who has been searching for a strange gem type object which has been unearthed in a back yard by two pre-teen kids. The kids of course upon finding it have no actual idea what it is until the alien, who’ve they later named Psycho Goreman comes looking for it.
THE PLOT
Goreman was a slave in his own universe until finding said gem, gave him super powers. He was able to assemble an uprising and take over his captors then start a violent rampage across the universe. He was then captured and banished to Earth. Upon finding the kids Goreman realises he has to be nice to the kids if he wants his gem back. Goreman and the girl, become close and Goreman takes on a big brother / protector type role and forms a bond with the kids.
I found the plot a little confusing as was the story and visuals. I couldn’t work out if it was a kids horror movie, a comedy or a serious horror movie. There was some level of horror / gore in this, but this is where it got confusing. Psycho, as the central character looks far too imtimidating to be a villian in a kids movie. The movie for the most part cold have been aimed at kids. Some parts of the movie really felt like a disney movies but every now and then they’d throw in some (quite graphic) gore which brought it more into an adult realm. Maybe its for adults trying to tap back into their childhood?
THE VERDICT
Over all it wasn’t bad perse, infact I’ll go so far as to say had a good time watching it, but it was a bit left of centre as far as horror movies go. I’m not sure how this one did at the box office, the research I did indicated it played at a couple of horror fests and went straight to DVD / video on demand.
