TURISTAS

Turistas is Portugese for the word Tourists. I’ve watched this one before but kind of surprised that I haven’t reviewed it up here. The first time I watched it I have to say it didn’t really grab me, but this time round (a fair few years later) I have to say I quite liked it!

The film opens up with a bunch of Tourists on a bus going through Brazil. The bus driver is driving at crazy speeds through very windy mountain road and of course ends up crashing the bus. Luckily, the occupants of the bus get out before the bus falls down the side of the mountain. Another bus is sent to pick them up but will be at least 10 hours away. A bunch of them decide to go have a few drinks down on a local beach and enjoy the time they are waiting. The beach looks like paradise on Earth in stark contrast to what’s really going on under the surface. The crowd of tourists get really drunk and eventually whilst unconscious they are robbed and a crew of organ harvesters are called in to pick up the bunch.

A Swedish couple are picked up first and the rest of the tourist gang soon smell a rat when they are wandering around the local town looking for help. It becomes clear the couple have been kid-napped and the rest of the crew are now on guard. They seek help with a local, Kiko who offers to guide them “back to safety”. In reality he is just leading them to his uncle who is in charge of the body harvesting racket.

I won’t go into the plot any further than that for ruining the experience for you guys yet to watch the film, but this is a pretty cool film with some great action, top shelf violence and some neat little plot twists to keep everyone guessing. It’s a little known horror film and would appeal to those who liked the movie Hostel, though this film is not as violent. Over-all it’s definitely worth a watch!
