Underworld is a pretty cool movie. Starring the mega hot Kate Beckinsale dressed head to toe in leather this is a must for any goths, black metal fans (The Cradle of Filth type of black metal fan) as it’s just a spectacular goth show case. As a movie itself, its actually really well done and there’s obviously been a fair bit of money thrown into the production so this is visually slick and the action is non-stop.
As far as the plot goes this one revolves around a centuries long war between Vampires and Lycans (Werewovles). Kate Beckinsale plays a vampire who along with the other vampires in her clan are trying to wipe out the lycans. However they’ve discovered there’s a big pack of them still lurking around and they’re getting organised to launch an assault against the vampires.
The movie opens with a pretty cool gunfight between Kate and a bunch of Vampires.
Overall, I liked this movie. This movie sits in the funny realm where you can watch it with a few friends around and just appreciate the action, or you can really watch it and get fully immersed in the plot. I think either way is fine personally. IF you choose the easy route, it’s not really a thinker but the action and production values are great. It’s basically an hour and a half of visual eye candy. If you choose to watch it with full concentration the movie is rewarding with a pretty complex but cool plot which you can almost immerse yourself in. I guess this is why the movie has so many sequels. The attention paid to details in the costumes and the fight scenes is phenomenal. The graphics are state of the art for its day and even hold up well to this current day. I don’t think this is the best horror movie ever but its pretty cool, and a great way to immerse yourself in a different world if you so choose.
