DERANGED

Well, Deranged was another pleasant surprise! I’m not sure where I got this one from. It had been sitting for a couple of years in my collection unwatched. I’m glad that curiosity got the better of me and I finally took the time to watch it. It is however important to note that there’s at least a couple of other films going by the same name.

This film, called Deranged follows the exploits of two main protagonists who basically are the only two real characters in the film for the main part. Rich is renting a house by himself and puts out an advert for a female housemate. Rich is a misogynistic pig and just wants to get in the pants of every female he can. Chris answers the advert, and despite being a man manages to talk Rich into letting him stay.

THE PLOT

This is a hard one to review without giving away a large part of the plot (So if you want to finish reading this I understand…) but here goes anyway. Chris is running away from memories of his wife whom he reveals to Rich killed herself after being raped. What Rich doesn’t realise is that Chris has tracked him down from their hometown of Chicago to the rental property and believes Rich is responsible for raping her. And as one would guess he is keen to extract revenge!

As the movie revolves around only two people in one location (the house) this would have been cheap to make. However due to the nature of the film it relies heavily on dialogue. This means there will be no middle ground with this film. It will either be a stinker or excellent. This is excellent. The two actors (unknown to me) do an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. They play their respective roles rather well.

THE VERDICT

The movie itself flows well and I found myself immersed in it from the start. While there’s not a lot of horror, there is at least a fair level of violence later on. Like I said I found myself glued to the movie the whole way through. Again while I don’t remember buying it I’m sure you’ll be able to either download it or find it at a 2nd hand haunt. If you see it cheap, its a good buy!
