HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES

House of 1000 Corpses is the directorial debut for Rob Zombie. Zombie had previously played in horror themed band White Zombie then his own project Rob Zombie, so the horror pedigree was strong. How would he go in his first feature film?

Id seen House of 1000 corpses before but it was so long ago I can barely remember it. It would be nice to relive this again. “House …” takes place in 1977 and has a similar feel to the movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre which i dare say would have been a huge influence on Mr. Zombie.

Zombie has assembled quite a cast for this one. Horror Legends Sid Haug, Bill Mosely (of texas chainsaw fame) as well as Rainn Wilson and his own rather hot wife Sherri Moon and Karen Black (Stifflers Mom). Added to this Rob Zombies music as a major part of the soundtrack you have the makings for a rip roaring good time.

The film opens up at Captain Spauldings Museum of horrors. He is the victim of an attempted robbery and of dispatches them in most heinous and violent style. Some more university ages students (Writing a book on roadside attractons) stumble across Spauldings Museum (Petrol stop) and it piques their curiousity. They of course decide to take the tour and check out the “Murder Ride”. After leaving the attraction they pick up the beautiful “baby” (Sherri Moon) who lures them to the house where her murderous family (very reminiscent of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre family)awaits. This of course is where it all falls apart. Can they get out of the house? Well you’ll have to find out for yourselves!

THE VERDICT ON HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES

THis is a gritty, gory and disgusting film. Horror fans will love it. Rob Zombies films tend to divide horror audiences. Most either love them or hate them. I think you have to take this stuff with a grain of salt. Its horror cheese topped with gore. Pure and simple. If you’re looking for an arty experience you’re looking in the wrong place. This is ramped up B grade horror and i for one think Zombie did a good job on this film. The film went on to gross out $16 million and spawn 3 sequels, which we’ll review here at some point or another. This in my opinion is a cool film but you have to be in the right frame of mind fo it. Its also pretty loaded with gore so may not be suitable for young audiences or those new to horror.
