JAWS

Well, Jaws is one movie I haven’t seen since I was a kid. I remember it being good, but other than that I don’t remember much. Produced in 1975 by box office machine Steven Spielberg, this is always going to be a good film.

Plot wise this one revolves around a rouge shark that is terrorising (and occasionaly putting the bite down) on the swimmers of Amity Island. A teenage girl is attacked by a shark and her remains wash up on the shore the next day. Town officials realise this is the work of a shark, but don’t want to shut the beaches down for fear of loosing the tourist dollar. The attacks continue with another attack and the police chief enlists the help of a marine biologist to track down the shark and destroy it. Do they manage to stop the shark? Well, best watch the movie to find out!

CRITICAL VERDICT

The gore content is not huge in Jaws. This Means you can enjoy it with your children or even your parents or whatever. As a movie its very watchable, and the plot moves along nicely. Its actually a great film and deserving of the numerous accolades and huge box office take it has gained. Jaws was the first film to gross over $100 million at the box office, beating out the “Godfather” at $86 million. It went on to gross $487 million over time making it one of the most successful films ever. Bear in mind the film only cost $9 million to make. I’d wager much of this was spent on the mechanical shark. Over all solid acting performances and great cinematography take this film into legendary territory. I’d be happy to recommend this film to anyone, not just horror fans.

As with anything shot by Spielberg this is masterfully directed and shot. There’s no complaints with this film at all
