A Nightmare on Elm Street 4

Ok the next one in this franchise, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4. This one I have to say, really holds a special place in my charred black heart. It was one of the first horror movies I ever saw back in high school in the late 80’s. The movie itself on first viewing cemented Freddy Krueger as on of the greatest and most Iconic horror movie characters ever, and thats without having seen the first movies at the time.

Fast forward more than 30 years and I’m now the veteran of 100’s of horror movies. With the benefit of having seen the first few movies now its interesting to be able to put this one back in perspective versus the other movies and with older eyes.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 kicks off not to long after part 3. Kristen, Kincaid and Joey are all back in school (Theres a new super cute actress portraying Kristen). They’re obviously trauma bonded over the events of the last movie, but seem to be moving on with life. That is until Freddy recreates himself and kills off Joey and Kincaid fairly on in the piece. He then focus’ in on Kristen and her new friends.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 has a much more supernatural feel to it than even part 3. The advancing technology really takes this one to the next level. I think for my money part 1 and 3 are the best movies of the franchise but this one surpasses part 3 in terms of special effects. Plot wise its pretty cool as well, but part three was a like a new story, but this is a continuation of that story.

Overall, It’s more of the same if you view the movies sequentially. It’s just a turbocharged version of the ones that came before it. It has a similar feel to part 2 really. I have to say, I really liked part 4. It’s a great sequel to a movie, but also keeps things fresh and exciting. Some very creative special effects and some cool one liners from Freddy serve to keep this one interesting. Think to yourself how many other franchises had started to get a little stale by part 4. The movie going audiences really lapped this one up. This installment went on gross just shy of $50 million at the box office to become the highest grossing so far of the series!
